We create displays and communication products from mycelium, which by nature is able to digest waste and trap carbon dioxide and make it bioavailable again. Mycelium never enters the waste chain, as it is naturally designed to be fertilising and nutritious. 

The hyphae that make up the mycelium have a similar function to plant roots: they explore the substrate made of waste wood fibres and digest it, generating nutrients that they store. The process of creating mycelium products involves the growth of hyphae within predetermined shapes. The bio-fabrication process guides the mycelium into the desired shape. The display literally grows into the chosen shape. 

End-of-life mycelium products are completely reusable to produce new mycelium materials; in fact, their reuse process is the same as the production process of the new part. Mycelium is the world's largest recycler: it puts the carbon stored in the lignocellulosic fibres of plants that have captured CO2 back into circulation.

Our mycelium production process uses waste natural wood fibres. During the bio-fabrication process, the hyphae digest the fibres, creating a nutritious compost that remains encapsulated within the display itself.

The encapsulation of the piece created by the hyphae protects the piece throughout its life, making it durable. The composting process starts immediately when the capsule is broken allowing the mycelium to humidify.

The unique texture of the mycelium encapsulated by its own intertwined hyphae makes the surface of the mycelium displays velvety almost impalpable. A unique sensation to the touch.

L-ife chips are fully compostable, natural, light, strong and made from waste materials. 

Very little energy is used in their production and no chemicals are used. The fully customisable graphic communication is realised on FSC cardboard and cardboard substrates with overprinting using water-based inks.

The mycelium products are generated in biofabrication, i.e. through the growth of mycelium in a pre-determined form by degrading a growth substrate consisting of plant fibre waste of various kinds. After use, the chips can simply be composted, helping to nourish the soil with beneficial elements.
